Custom Challenge Coin of the Month – August 2021

Our team here at Unit Coins pride ourselves in pushing our creative limits to craft coins that continue to impress and reflect our gratitude towards those who have served our country. August’s coin in particular is dedicated to those in the US Army who have served as part of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, also dubbed the warriors. The coin commemorating their battalion features a host of impressive design specs, such as crisp edging, eye-catching designs, and brilliant use space to create a custom coin that is indicative of those being honored. Additionally, this month’s coin also showcases our ability to accommodate a particular design with a custom coin shape. No ideas are too big to be translated onto a custom challenge coin.  If you have a particular design or idea in mind to commemorate a particular group, battle, or battalion, we encourage you to contact our team! Our designers and craftsmen are here to consult with you and ensure that your ideas become reality.

Look & Design

From its unique shape to its polished gold plating and use of bright greens, reds, and blues, this month’s coin is particularly engaging. We believe that superior service warrants superior craftmanship and this month’s coin is a testament to that belief. This coin celebrates the hard work and dedication of the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, which is also part of the 25th Infantry division. First activated in 1941, this group has served our country from World War I through Operation Iraqi Freedom and is a formidable force.

On one side of the coins face reads in bold white lettering, “2nd SBCT 25th ID” across the top of the coin’s polished gold plating. Just beneath the lettering is the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 25th Infantry Division, which is sometimes referred to as the “electric strawberry.” The insignia features a yellow border with a red center and is shaped like a red taro leaf to symbolize the descent of the 25th Division from the Hawaiian Division. Meanwhile, the bold yellow lightning bolt at the center of the insignia is reflective of how the division performs and executes their duties. Below the shoulder insignia is the sprawling green design of an ICV Stryker as well as the Distinctive Unit Insignia. The lush, green palm branches on either side of the insignia is a nod to the division’s nickname “Tropic Lightning.”

Where the first side of this coin plays with perspective and utilizes space, the other side of the coin is more structured, detailed, and intricate. Across the top of the coin’s face reads, “2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team – Warrior” in bold white lettering. Similarly, at the bottom of the coin’s face reads “WWI WWII VIETNAM OIF” in the same bold white font. In the center of the coin is a split between red on the left and blue on the right as the background from which eight different insignias, rankings, and symbols are positioned.

More on the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team – 25th Infantry Division

August’s coin of the month is dedicated to the 2nd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, a part of the 25th Infantry Division. The duty of this division also nicknamed “Tropic Lightning” is to serve as the premiere Army response force and to teach other U.S. Military branches how to function in physically demanding environments, all as a part of the U.S. Pacific Command. The deployment is made of four distinct units, light infantry, airborne, aviation, and Stryker. This coin is especially in honor of the Stryker unit, which operates large, heavy duty ICV Stryker, which are armored fighting vehicles and personnel carriers. Activated shortly after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the 25th Infantry Division has been serving our country ever since to protect our freedoms. We are proud to be honoring them this month with this particularly eye-catching coin.
